People who have been incarcerated at one or another point in their lives will tell you that special survival skills are necessary in prison. A challenge that many people who are staring at the prospect of being sent to prison face is that of learning and developing the right survival skills. With such survival skills properly developed, the prospect of going to prison is, at the very least, manageable (sad as it may be). Without such survival skills though, the prospect of going to prison can be terrifying. Thankfully, some books have been written, to help people survive prison – especially those who are facing first time incarceration. We will be looking at reviews of two such books. We will also be looking at the review of one hope-inspiring book, for inmates.

A Review of William Mitchell’s “How to Survive Prison for the First Time Inmate: Take a Look at a Dangerous Society Within Our Society”

That can be when one is facing a criminal case which is nearing conclusion and in which the possibility of going to prison is high. It can also be when one has actually been convicted of a crime, and is awaiting sentencing while out on bail. To help people cope with such situations, books on how to survive prison have been written, and one of the best in that category is William Mitchell’s “How to Survive Prison for the First Time Inmate: Take a Look at a Dangerous Society Within Our Society”. Unique about this book is the fact that it is written by someone who has experience of having been a prisoner for many years, including several early stints as a vulnerable (young) prisoner. In a nutshell, this book will help you overcome many of the challenges that would probably have made life ‘hell on earth’ for you as a first-time inmate.

A Review of Christian Hosoi’s “Hosoi: My Life as a Skateboard Junkie Inmate Pastor”

It is a story of hope, and the sort of book that would make a good choice of a gift for an inmate in a correctional facility who probably has many questions in the midst of hopelessness.

A Review of Allan Thorn’s “The Suburban Inmate: A Man’s Guide to Surviving Prison”

But we all know that folks from the middle and upper classes do as well often end up in prison occasionally. Allan Thorn’s “The Suburban Inmate: A Man’s Guide to Surviving Prison” can help the middle-class or upper-class man who faces the prospect of prison learn how to make the best of the experience. It is an entertaining read by all accounts, and it is really a must-read book, even if you don’t have the prospect of incarceration hanging over you.
